I have been making art for most of my life. It the
way I make sense of the world. What I love about drawing is that
it demands a focus which pre-empts my day-to-day thoughts. I use
charcoal because it is fast and dramatic and primitive.
In many ways, the drawings that I have been doing for some twenty-odd
years chronicle my emotional and intellectual life. They are a synthesis
of my feelings, and what I see going on around me. I work from intuition
and the drawings are a record of the process more than a product.
Last summer, I did a lot of small, local landscape paintings. This
year I have been painting a lot of deer paintings. The large, figurative,
composite paintings on this website, are from photographs of friends
and places I have been.
I will be having a show entitled "Tin Cans and Charcoal,"
at the Phantom
Gallery in October, in Santa Rosa. I will also be participating
in this year's ARTrails
Sonoma County event, so come by my studio in October.
Last year, I showed some paintings at the Pesto Bar and Grill in
Sebastopol, participated in a group show at The Phantom Gallery,
and was part of another group show,"Control," at SomArts
in San Francisco. I teach Art and Video Art at the middle school
level. |
